Iran Reports Attack on US Base in Bahrain, Amid Regional Counterattacks.
Iran's military claims to have hit a American military facility in Bahrain, as Iran launched operations throughout the Middle East in retaliation for a large-scale and continuing offensive against it by the United States and Israeli forces.
Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an vicinity near the main base of the American Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The full scale of any destruction is not yet known and the United States has not commented.
Missile Defenses Activated
Elsewhere across the region, the UAE, Qatar and Kuwait - which all house American military installations - reported they have engaged and destroyed incoming projectiles in their air space.
In Doha, the Qatari Ministry of Defence said it had successfully engaged a number of projectiles apparently targeting the al-Udeid air base, the largest American base in the region.
Operation "Truthful Promise 4"
Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) stated it was attacking US bases and assets as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in retaliation for the attack on the Islamic Republic carried out by the US and Israel on Saturday morning.
That preceding assault - initiated at around 06:15 GMT - has so far focused on areas associated with the the regime, with President Trump urging the people of Iran to rise up against the government.
Wider Impacts
In the State of Israel, sirens were heard nationwide after the Israeli military said it had identified an barrage of missiles from Iran.
The Ministry of Defence of the United Arab Emirates said in a statement that the country has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"UAE air defence systems dealt with the projectiles with great effectiveness and shot down a number of missiles," it added.
Officials reported debris landed in a residential area in the capital, resulting in some structural damage and the death of one civilian.
The US Air Force is stationed at the Al Dhafra base, to the south of Abu Dhabi, along with the Emirati Air Force.
